In recent years, kinetic modeling has been a prevailing approach in various fields in science and technology, and a variety of resulting kinetic equations have been a subject of mathematical investigation. The origin of these kinetic equations is the celebrated Boltzmann equation in classical kinetic theory of gases. In spite of its long history, the true development of mathematical theory as well as asymptotic and numerical methods for the Boltzmann equation started only after the middle of the 20th century because of its complexity. Among these studies, one of the epoch making mathematical results is the proof, given by Prof. Seiji Ukai in 1974, of the global existence of the solution of the Cauchy problem for the nonlinear Boltzmann equation. This result has had significant influence on subsequent mathematical research on the Boltzmann and related kinetic equations. Professor Ukai had been making outstanding contributions to mathematical kinetic theory and fluid dynamics over 40 years.

Sadly Prof. Ukai passed away on November 7, 2012. After this sad event, many mathematicians have encouraged the present organizers to organize a conference dedicated to his memory in Japan. This conference is a response to these messages. The aim of the conference is to provide an opportunity for researchers who had friendship and collaboration with Prof. Ukai and who have been influenced by him to remember him and exchange current results on kinetic and fluid equations.

Transportation from Kansai Airport (Osaka) to Kyoto:

How to reach COOP INN Kyoto from Kansai (Osaka) Airport? There are two suggestions.

Option 1: via JR (Japan Railway) Kyoto Station using JR Airport Express “Haruka” (click here for the instruction).

It is convenient to take a taxi from Kyoto Station to COOP INN Kyoto. But if you walk to COOP INN Kyoto from subway station “Shijo” or from bus stop “Shijo-Takakura”, “Daimaru” Department store is a landmark Go toward the east along “Shijo Street” passing in front of “Daimaru” and turn to the left just after “Starbucks Coffee” into “Yanaginobanba Street” (a very narrow street). If you go about 400 m ahead toward the north crossing two narrow streets, then COOP INN Kyoto is on your right-hand side.

Option 2: via MK Skygate Shuttle from Kansai Airport to COOP INN Kyoto.
